Anagantios - Hreþmonaþ - Worm Moon

Time to get ready for the next moonth!  (Oops, this was supposed to out early... I need to figure out auto-posts more!)

As always, these should be seen as only ideas for focusing in meditation, ritual, or just random deep thoughts throughout the month.

The Farmer's Almanac has named this Worm Moon.  The Full Moon is usually in the calendar month of March and around here that means late winter/early spring rains, bringing the worms to the surface.  The Coligny Calendar calls this "Anagantios," which in our grove we call 'stay at home month.'  Our priests come around on the sixth night of the moon to do house blessings.  From the Anglo-Saxons, we have Hreþmonaþ, the month of the Goddess Hreþe or Rheda.  This is the only reference to this goddess we know of, from Bede's Reckoning of Time.  This is when there were sacrifices to her, although who "her" is, is a mystery.   According to Wikipedia, Rheda may mean "The Victorious" or "The Famous."  This is literally all we know.

The next line of the Song of Amergin is "I am a wind over the sea" so Kondratiev calls this the Moon of the Wind, and draws our attention to the breath of life, and energy of samos (summer) the winds bring with them.

All of this sounds to me like a  month of anticipation.  We stay home, since the weather is beginning to be crazy (and it certainly has been around here) has the scales begin to tilt towards summer.  It's still cold, but the warm snaps start coming more frequently, and staying a bit longer.  But it's not quite time yet....

Astrologically, the new moon enters the sign of Pisces on February 20. Pisces is super dreamy, full of empathy, imagination, and psychic abilities.  This "moonth" is all about that:  Imagination, selflessness, sensitivity.  Focus can be on spiritual meditative, and ritual practices, too, if that's your thing. The sun and moon are conjunct so this makes these energies all the stronger for setting a goal in that realm.

At the first quarter, on February 27, Moon in Gemini is square the sun in Pisces.  The moon in Gemini is very "intellectual," kind of the opposite of dreamy, and can maybe be in 'overdrive' in terms of communication.  There's friction between being super intellectual and wanting to go with your feelings.

Full moon on March 7 has Pisces sun opposing Virgo Moon.  Virgo is super practical, so the tension between this and the Pisces sun can be brought into balance by making plans to make those dreams a reality.

3rd quarter on March 14 sees the moon in Sagittarius square the Pisces Sun.  Sagittarius is adventurous and looks to expand its consciousness, seeking out the meaning of life.  This seems to be right in line with Pisces, but the square means there would be friction between getting distracted by the "new bright shiny" and losing track of the goal you set for yourself at the new moon.
